These two gorillas are to be found near Millenium Square in the area known as Harbourside, where all those new apartment blocks have been built. You can cross via ferry from the SS Great Britain to this area if you are on the other side of the river. There is a pleasant walkway along the front there now, with stern signs forbidding cyclists and so on, which are sensibly ignored for the most part.
The blue one is painted – blue! – but the idea was to give a depth to the blue to make it look like Bristol blue glass and it has worked quite well but that’s about all I can think to say about it.
The silver one is outside the new office palace of a very succesful financial advice and
investment company based here in Bristol. It is called Seeing me, seeing you. I thought it was meant to reflect the colour of money, but their blurb says ‘the chrome reflects man in the gorilla’ so obviously doesn’t include me. I dislike the use of the word ‘man’ to stand for ‘humanity’. It’s very old-fashioned and non-inclusive.
So I am not going to spend much more time thinking about these two, but here they are. Tick the list and lets move on….
